As much as Apple gets under my skin... They get it !!! Elegance in your devices is the single most important characteristic. It trumps a laudry list of features everytime.  
Yesterday i came accross this new Tablet manufacturer and was blow away at their attention to the 'experience' .  Check them out .

People forget that there are real people trying to earn a living writing software. The expectation that everything must be free really de-values our industry. My dentist or Doctor would never consider giving away their Services… So the cost of free to the consumer sometimes comes at the expense of a little advertising….

My Whole career I’ve had to put up with working with MBA’s. I usually just bite my tongue when they listen to themselves pontificate, and then just do what is common sense and good for the products... Once in a while a piece of software simply blows me away. Splashtop Remote Desktop  did this about a month ago when I downloaded it for ( $4.99 ) for my Galaxy Tab.  It worked perfectly right out of the gate and hasn’t crashed yet (. I’ve been a huge fan & supporter of logMeIn for years, but SplashTop just downright out did them in every way.  From user experience metaphor, to the use of creative gestures to streaming sound to the Tablet… it just flat out crushed LogMeIn… I’m kinda pissed I spent $29.99 for LogMeIn.

As a software developer myself, I’m continuously astonished at how the general public seems to think ‘everything’ Apple does is without reproach.  It seems that they get away with huge gaps in their software that people are willing to overlook, but if Microsoft, Google or Oracle had released the same thing, people would be up in arms.

This week Apple release a new version of Final Cut pro which obviously missed the mark.

It was so bad in fact that Apple mysteriously had a problem with its rating system and all the bad comments  about the software disappeared from the AppStore. Strangely enough, this only affected Final Cut Pro.

It’s not like this is a big deal or anything, but I think the Honeymoon may be over for a lot of facebook fans. Although I see the value of social media tools like Facebook and twitter, I do believe that people have been miss-using ( or overusing) them and have ruined the experience for the rest of us.  I honestly don’t care where you are at every moment of the day and I truthfully don’t care what you are eating… Unless it is the best ‘whatever’ you ever ate… (and please don’t ‘best whatever’ me every day).

! Lastly, I know your kids are awesome, I do think the little buggers can be endearing from time to time…. But surely you can find a few other interesting things to chat & take pics of now and again…  Remember, when I’m sitting on the can and checking my friends status updates and facebook walls… I don’t want to see pics of your kids… that makes me feel really creepy..

C’mon all you Mac/Apple fanboys out there… You have to admit this is innovative stuff for an OS. If Apple had released this sort of an experience on the Macs, you’d all be espousing how wonderful it is.

BTW, don’t count them out of the phone game yet. Windows Phone 7 is quite nice ( and i'm an Adroid fan...). Plus It’s getting easier and easier to make cross platform phone apps, so the porting costs are quite low...At least between the open platforms.
